Barbara Corcoran Apologizes After Joking About Whoopi Goldberg's Weight

Shark Tank star Barbara Corcoran apologized after making a joke about Whoopi Goldberg's weight during an appearance on The View.

Things started off well when businesswoman Corcoran and her Shark Tank co-stars, Mark Cuban and Daymond John, were guests on the ABC talk show—where Goldberg serves as the moderator—on Thursday.

When the conversation turned to jeans from Good American, the fashion company co-founded by Khloe Kardashian and Shark Tank star Emma Grede, Goldberg enquired: "Will they fit this COVID [butt]?"

Goldberg's The View co-hosts Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro duly assured her that she would be able to wear the jeans from the brand, which prides itself on making products for women of varied shapes and sizes.

Corcoran then drew groans from the audience as she quipped: "When you get finished with those jeans, and decide you don't like them, give them to me. I'm gonna make two pairs."

Oscar winner Goldberg appeared unimpressed as she glared at Corcoran, whose laugh was soon replaced with an awkward smile.

Without missing a beat, Navarro leapt to Goldberg's defense as she took a swipe at Corcoran's choice of colorful bodycon dress.

"Whoopi, let me just tell you something. Both Sara Haines and Jill Biden wore that dress already on TV," Navarro said, before dramatically ripping her cue card.

Entrepreneur Corcoran placed her hands on her hips in playful protest as she shot back: "That's not true!"

"Donald Trump Jr. tried that on me. It didn't work," Navarro continued, referring to Trump Jr.'s body-shaming tweet directed at her after her recent false positive COVID test.

Actress and TV personality Goldberg's smile returned as she brought the segment to an end, with the co-hosts and guests laughing together, albeit awkwardly.

Corcoran later took to Twitter to issue a video apology, entitled: "Love ya Whoopi," in which she said: "I just came back from The View and saw my old friend, Whoopi. As you well know, she has a phenomenal sense of humor and I've known Whoopi for years.

"I made a joke at Whoopi's expense, which I now realize wasn't funny. For anyone who I may have offended unintentionally, I just want to say I really am very sorry."

The awkward TV moment drew a strong reaction among viewers, a number of whom spoke out in support of Goldberg and praised Navarro.

One viewer wrote on Twitter: "Ana is that girl! Ride or die and I love her for it! @ananavarro said don't you come for Whoopi! Barbara Corcoran went too far."

"Whew Anna with the quick comeback to lighten that tense moment," another Twitter user said. "I know whoopi is a comedian but Barbara was out of pocket for no reason."

"Whoopi Goldberg is an EGOT - meaning she has an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony," wrote another. "She was in Ghost and Sister Act and one of the best Moonlighting episodes ever. Barbara Corcoran finds places for rich folks to rent."

Meanwhile, other viewers came to Corcoran's defense, with one saying: "We as viewers, really don't know how close Barbara and Whoopi may be. It appeared to me that they are comfortable with joking with each other.

"I was watching the moment when it occurred. I did not see any signs of intentional insult or offense. IT WAS ONLY A JOKE.! LET'S MOVE ON."

Goldberg has yet to publicly respond to Corcoran's apology.
