'Battlefield V' Has Both Single-Player and Multiplayer Modes

Despite the recent rise in multiplayer gaming, the next Battlefield game will feature a single-player campaign. This information comes from the recent EA earnings call. Thanks to Seeking Alpha for the transcription.

The information about Battlefield 's single-player mode came from EA CEO Andrew Wilson. "With our next Battlefield game, the team at DICE is bringing the intensity of combat to life in new and unexpected ways. Every battle is unique and every mode brings its own challenges, from the way you interact with the environment around you to compelling single-player stories to the next level of large-scale multiplayer that spans across multiple maps and modes," he said on the call. "This will be a deep and fully featured shooter and ongoing service that will evolve with major new experiences for our community, beginning right from launch."

The earnings call also revealed that EA will host "Battlefield competitions" in fiscal year 2019, and it sounds like those competitions will incorporate the new Battlefield game set to release later this year.

As for when we'll hear more information about the next Battlefield, EA's COO and CFO, Blake Jorgensen, mentioned that more information, including release timing, will come during EA Play and E3 in June. "You'll hear more about E3 timeframe on Battlefield. You'll hear quite a bit coming up about the game and the plans for it. We're very excited," he said.

Recent rumors suggest the next Battlefield game will be set in World War II. Given the success of both Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: WWII, it makes sense developer DICE will stick to the historical setting instead of jumping to the modern era or into the future.

Another Battlefield rumor mentions the upcoming shooter will launch with 10 maps, with an extra map to follow shortly after launch. The same rumor cites a reveal this month, with a planned launch for October. Seeing as how Battlefield typically releases around the same time as Call of Duty, and this year's Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is scheduled for an Oct. 12 release, this information makes sense.
