What is the 'Battlefield V' Open Beta?

The Battlefield V beta is an open beta, meaning anyone can download and play starting Sept. 6 without paying a cent. However, those who have pre-ordered Battlefield V can start playing the beta on Sept. 4. DICE has yet to announce an end time for the beta, simply stating it will run "for a limited time." If you want to make the most out of your time with the beta, it will be possible to pre-load the game onto your console, so you can start playing as soon as the servers are activated. Pre-load begins on Sept. 3 at 4 a.m. EDT on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

What's new and what's being tested in the Battlefield V beta?

Conquest mode is a feature, with two different maps to play on. Conquest involves two teams of up to 32 players each battling for control of several key locations across a map. The two maps available include the Rotterdam map set in Holland and the Arctic Fjord map set in Narvik, Norway.

Additionally, two "days" of the Grand Operations mode are included in the beta. This mode is described as a "modular narrative experience," with each "day" serving as a round of play. This mode will only be playable on the Arctic Fjord map.

For single-player gamers, a five-chapter demo of the Tides of War mode is included in the beta. The goal for Tides of War is to release a new narrative every few months, featuring unique gameplay experiences. Completing the Tides of War section of the beta rewards players with an exclusive in-game dog tag once Battlefield V officially releases.
