What Is the Bentellect Trend on TikTok? The Benny Boy Videos Explained

If you regularly use TikTok, chances are by now you will have come across the Bentellect trend and the rather creepy messages about a certain "Benny Boy".

The trend emerged seemingly out of nowhere earlier in August and has since gone viral on the platform, with some of the videos racking up around three million views.

By its very nature, TikTok's trends often tend to be ephemeral but the Bentellect craze seems to have enough momentum to outlast some of its counterparts.

So, here's what it is and how it all began...

Who is "Benny Boy"?

The so-called "Benny Boy" who stars in the TikTok videos is a content creator known as Bentellect. A huge star on the platform with over eight million followers, Bentellect's videos regularly achieve millions of views.

Benny Boy uses his TikTok platform to discuss a broad range of topics, from viral tweets to distorted pictures.

Such is the size of the audience and recognition Benny Boy receives on TikTok that Bentellect has started to refer to himself as the platform's "facts man".

So, what is the Bentellect TikTok trend?

The viral trend, which began in August, is known as "Bentellect Scary Stitches" or "We're Coming For You Benny Boy", and consists of videos of TikTok users watching Bentellect's clips.

Users then add a random creepy or scary picture at the end of the clip, accompanied by a voiceover warning Benny Boy to be careful (or a message along those lines).

"The one factor that doesn't exist anymore is you Benny boy after we suck your soul out of your physique," one of the voiceovers says.

The short snippet of audio is created by using the platform's text-to-speech function. The TikTok trend also utilises the app's Stitches function—a feature which allows users to clip and use scenes from other videos in their own, while retaining credit per video creator — and are mostly collected under the hashtags "#bennyboy" and "#bentellect".

How big is the trend?

Since it first kicked off, the Bentellect Scary Stitches trend has gone viral on TikTok.

On August 10, @themasterbucks posted a Stitch featuring an image by artist Trevor Henderson of a creature enveloped in darkness behind a house to one of Bentellect's videos, with a voiceover warning: "Ben. We're outside, Ben. We can smell you."

Within a day, the video received almost three million views.
