Is Best Buy Down? PS5 Shoppers Trying to Buy Console Left Frustrated

BestBuy.com was experiencing problems as shoppers hoping to buy a PS5 or Xbox Series X flocked to the website.

Best Buy announced yesterday that it would be releasing the highly coveted next-gen consoles sometime after 9 a.m. ET on Tuesday, though did not provide a specific time. Shortly after 9 a.m., however, the website seemed to crash.

When trying to access the Best Buy website, customers were met with: "We're sorry, something went wrong. You can use our search bar or pick a category below. If you typed in a URL, check it for errors."

Searching for the PS5 at Best Buy allowed users to open the PlayStation 5 product page which said "Coming Soon" or "Out of Stock." However, users were also met with the following message: "Sorry, it's crowded in here! Give us a few minutes to make some room. Please check back soon."

At around 11 a.m. ET the Best Buy website seemed to be up and running. However, there is no update on the imminent PS5 or Xbox Series X restock, which appears to be the cause of the crash.

Gamers hoping to buy the new consoles have taken to Twitter to express their frustration with the Best Buy release.

Olivia said sarcastically: "Best Buy did a great job with the Xbox Series X restock," and shared an error message which says: "We're sorry, something went wrong."

Twitter account @PS5Drop, which has been updating its followers on where to get the PlayStation 5 console, said: "It has been 1 hour and 15 minutes since Best Buy went 'live,'" and added a photo of Elmo sitting on a bench with the caption "pain."

Although gamers expected the consoles to be available at 9 a.m. ET, when the restock was announced, Best Buy said that the PS5 and Xbox Series X would be released "sometime after" so there is no way of knowing when today they will become available.

As of 11 a.m. ET, the consoles appear on the Best Buy website with a "Coming Soon" message. Though the website is working right now, gamers may experience more issues once the consoles are released.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X will be released at Best Buy online to be purchased with curbside pick up. The consoles will not be available to purchase in-store.
