Bette Midler Shares Exciting Details About How to Watch the 'Hocus Pocus' Reunion Special

For those looking to add to their yearly Hocus Pocus re-watch, the Sanderson sisters will be reuniting for a "Hulaween" benefit to help the non-profit organization the New York Restoration Project. Winifred Sanderson herself, Bette Midler, shared an update for fans via Instagram that Doug Jones will be reprising his role as Billy Butcherson for the livestream in full makeup.

The video shows makeup and special effects artist Tony Gardner applying makeup to Jones. "You thought he was a goner, but he's baaaack," she wrote. Gardner also reposted the video to his own Instagram, and Jones shared a selfie of himself in full makeup, looking "As if no time has passed at all."

Both Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, who played Sarah and Mary Sanderson, respectively, will also join Midler and Jones for the reunion special on October 30 at 8 p.m. EST. Tickets are available for $10 through the NYRP website, where people can also donate to the NYPR. The special is dubbed "In Search of the Sanderson Sisters" and will feature guest appearances from numerous celebrities, including Meryl Streep, singer Adam Lambert, Saturday Night Live cast member Kenan Thompson, comedian Sarah Silverman and many more. The documentary-style special will be hosted by none other than the Mistress of the Dark, Elvira.

Midler hosting the benefit for the NYRP is no surprise, as she founded organization, which is dedicated to preserving green spaces and public parks. In a statement to Newsweek, NYRP executive director Lynn Kelly praised the actress for organizing the benefit. "We are blown away by our founder Bette Midler's tireless dedication to New York Restoration Project," she wrote. "She has truly gone above and beyond to rally an ultimate cast to support New York City's parks and gardens. Our green spaces are vital for New Yorkers' health and wellbeing, during COVID and beyond!"

To coincide with the spooky special, the NYRP is also holding a virtual costume contest. Fans are encouraged to enter by uploading a short video showing off their costume on TikTok or Instagram with the hashtag #NYRPSpiritHalloween, and follow Spirit Halloween and the NYRP on Instagram. After posting the video, contestants should email their entries to the NYRP's "Hulaween" email address.

Contest winners will receive airfare and a two-night stay in New York City, with admission to the 2021 edition of Hulaween, as well as a $500 gift card to Spirit Halloween and a fashion illustration of the entry by Justin Teodoro.

Aside from the look at Jones, Midler has offered behind-the-scenes glimpses of the special, including shots of the three witches in front of a blue screen, and Parker on set.

Midler's publicist did not respond to Newsweek's emailed request for comment in time for publication.
