According to BB host Julie Chen, there were some contestants who did not even make it into the house. She told CBSN Los Angeles: "We flew in a bunch of people, more than 16...and some people I thought were definitely going in the house, they tested positive for COVID-19 so they couldn't go in."

When these houseguests entered the house on August 5, they barely had time to settle in. The contestants came in in groups of four in mini-competitions in order to compete for the prestigious Head of Household competition.

Christmas, Ian, Kevin, Nicole A., Memphis, and Cody made it through the heats, with Cody then emerging as the first HOH. The other five HOH competitors, meanwhile, got consolation episodes that turned them into Have-Nots that have to sleep in a separate bedroom they have to crawl into.

As Big Brother fans may expect, plenty of new twists and turns were revealed in the premiere. Among them is a new Safety Suite room that seems to protect those within it from eviction.

Viewers will find out about these twists when Big Brother 22 returns on Sunday, August 9 at 8 p.m. ET. Episodes of the show this year will air on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays on CBS.

Big Brother fans have already started to choose their favorites for victory in Season 22. A TVLine poll currently has Janelle, Tyler, and Cody as the top three favorites, with Nicole F. just behind them.
