About Dick's Sporting Goods
Dick's Sporting Goods was founded in 1948 by 18-year-old Dick Stack. Stack was working in an Army surplus store when the store owner asked him to come up with a list of products needed to get into the fishing tackle business.
When his ideas were rejected, Stack quit. With the help of his grandmother and her life savings, he set up his own store which eventually developed into Dick's Sporting Goods. The company is still run by the Stack family and has more than 720 locations across the U.S.
