'The Blacklist' Season 8: When It Starts and How to Watch Online

The Blacklist Season 8 is coming to NBC this fall—and after the unusual animated finale of the last season proved controversial among fans, it will be in all its live-action glory. For this new set of episodes, the James Spader show has a new streaming home and a new release date schedule for fans who want to watch the latest episodes online.

When does The Blacklist Season 8 start?

The release date for The Blacklist Season 8 premiere, titled "Roanoke," is Friday, November 13, when the episode will air in the show's current timeslot of 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT.

Future episodes of Season 8 will also air on Fridays at 8 p.m. / 7 p.m., where it is followed in the NBC fall lineup by Dateline.

How to watch The Blacklist Season 8 online

With NBC launching its own streaming service, the way that viewers can watch Season 8 online will be slightly different than with previous seasons.

Initially, there is no change. The next day, episodes will be available on the NBC website and app to watch for free with ads. NBC.com and the app also offer a live stream of the channel so fans can watch The Blacklist Season 8 online for free as it airs on Friday nights.

However, episodes will then come to Peacock. According to the NBCUniversal streamer's November schedule, episodes of The Blacklist Season 8 will start airing on Peacock on November 21. This suggests that episodes are coming to the streamer eight days after they first air on NBC. Currently, the streamer also has the last five episodes of Season 7, though these are leaving on November 20.

Currently, however, previous seasons of The Blacklist are not on Peacock but on Netflix which has Seasons 1 to 7. If Season 8 comes to Netflix as usual then fans can expect it in September 2021.

As Netflix has what is called a legacy contract for The Blacklist, they will keep getting seasons of the show as long as NBC keeps making them, meaning the show is unlikely to come to Peacock unless the company is able and willing to buy Netflix out of a contract that sees them paying up to a rumored $2 million per episode.

What to expect from The Blacklist Season 8

The official synopsis for the premiere reads: "Red directs the Task Force to investigate a legendary criminal who organizes elaborate extractions. Meanwhile, Liz works to hatch a secret plan with her mother, Katarina Rostova."

However, the episode title for Episode 2 hints the Katarina storyline will be tied up, as it is named "Katerina Rostova: Conclusion." Speaking to CinemaBlend, showrunner John Eisendrath said of this: "This year, we have all the big stuff that we were unable to finish at the end of the last season that is going to start this season.

"So the next season, season eight, starts in a much more heightened and dramatic place than normal seasons do because we are gonna tell the story that we were unable to tell at the end of last season."

The Blacklist Season 8 airs Fridays at 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT on NBC.
