Toronto Blue Jays infielder Bo Bichette is one of the more intriguing free agents on the market this winter, and he has no shortage of suitors.
While the Blue Jays have slowly seemed to fall out of the sweepstakes, the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees make a lot of sense as suitors in free agency. But they might not be willing to pay Bichette's asking price.
Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported Bichette was asking for a massive $300 million deal this winter, which is a lot higher than any projection for the shortstop.

"As an ultra young free agent at 27, Bichette’s ask is thought around $300 million, which at first blush may sound high considering that’s the ballpark of even more accomplished shortstops Corey Seager, Trea Turner and Francisco Lindor, but maybe not when you consider how deals for Juan Soto and Bichette’s teammate/great friend Vlad Guerrero Jr. moved the market. (Logic says Seager at 27 might get $500M today considering that’s what Guerrero got,)" Heyman wrote.
If Bichette were bound to stick at shortstop, he could land a deal worth $300 million over the course of around 10 years. But it seems like the free agent is going to switch positions in the near future. He could move to second base or third base as soon as next season because of his subpar defense at shortstop.
Realistically, he's going to sign for around $180 million to $200 million, but it isn't surprising that he's asking much higher. Talented shortstops are a premium in MLB, so Bichette should be paid like one of the most valuable players in the league.
