Where 'The Book of Boba Fett' Fits in the Star Wars Timeline

The Book of Boba Fett will be released weekly on Disney+ from Wednesday, December 29, adding a new chapter to the "Star Wars" franchise.

The TV series will bring with it a whole lot of lore to build onto the franchise's ever-expanding timeline.

Following on from The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett will reveal what's next for its titular character (Temuera Morrison) and his right-hand woman Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen).

Here is everything you need to know about the new Star Wars TV show and where it fits in the franchise's timeline.

Where The Book of Boba Fett fits into the Star Wars timeline

Boba Fett was re-introduced to the "Star Wars" franchise in The Mandalorian's second season, with Fennec first appearing in Season 1 as an adversary to its eponymous lead (played by Pedro Pascal).

The character had last been seen in Return of the Jedi, in which he fell into the Sarlacc Pitt when Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and Han Solo (Harrison Ford) set out to save Princess Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) from Jabba the Hutt.

The short story "A Barve Like That: The Tale of Boba Fett", from Star Wars Legends novel "Tales from Jabba's Palace", explains that the character survived the ordeal by creating an explosion inside the Sarlacc using his jetpack and escaped through a hole he blew in the beast's side using grenades.

In The Mandalorian Season 2, Boba Fett met the Mandalorian in order to get his suit of armour back from him, he later briefly joined Mando's side to help retrieve Grogu (aka Baby Yoda) from Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito), with Fennec, Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff) and Koska Reeves (Mercedes Varnado).

The show's season finale ended with Skywalker arriving on Gideon's ship and taking Grogu from the Mandalorian's hands so he could train him to be a Jedi, with Fennec returning to Boba Fett shortly afterwards.

The duo were later seen going to Jabba the Hutt's palace, which they promptly took over by killing Bib Fortuna (Matthew Wood) to claim the throne.

The Book of Boba Fett starts exactly where the characters were left off in The Mandalorian, and it will follow the pair as they take over Jabba's old territory and start to carve a piece of Tatooine's criminal underworld for themselves.

Much like The Mandalorian, the Disney+ show is set in the aftermath of Return of the Jedi following the fall of the Empire at the hands of Skywalker and the Rebel Alliance.

Season 2 of The Mandalorian is set approximately 5 years after Return of the Jedi, so The Book of Boba Fett will take place around the same time period.

Both series also take place 25 years before the events of The Force Awakens, the first film in the sequel trilogy.

At the time, the New Republic would have just been established under Leia's leadership, while her twin would also have started up his Jedi Temple.

For fans of the sequel trilogy, Ben Solo, later known as Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), was born 5 years after Return of the Jedi, so he is an infant during both The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett.

The Book of Boba Fett airs weekly on Disney+ from December 29.
