'Borderlands 3' 4th Skill Tree, PS5 & Xbox Series X Versions Revealed
Borderlands 3 was the focus of major announcements during the Gearbox PAX Digital Showcase Saturday afternoon. The fabled fourth Skill Tree has finally been revealed, alongside next-gen versions and enhancements for co-op. The game's first Season Pass may be over, but there's still plenty of life left in 2019's popular looter shooter.
The showcase kicked off with the announcement that Borderlands 3 will, indeed, be coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X with free next-gen upgrades between console families. In other words, upgrades apply from PS4 to PS5 as well as Xbox One to Xbox Series X. Both saves and purchases will transfer over to the next-gen version of the game as well. This arrives in tandem with 4K 60 fps support in single-player mode. For those who prefer co-op, the next-gen builds will also support split-screen play for up to four players at once.

If next-gen doesn't tickle your fancy quite yet, there's still plenty of content coming to both generations of Borderlands 3 via free updates. Split-screen support will now have vertical and horizontal options, but that's just the start of a much longer journey that Gearbox teased could include full crossplay support in the coming year. Outside the now-complete Season Pass, players will also be getting a new game mode and a fourth Skill Tree for each Vault Hunter. And, as any good Borderlands 3 Skill Tree should, the new additions debut alongside fresh Action Skills not yet seen in the game.

For the purposes of the PAX showcase the main area of focus was FL4K, who now has a Trapper Skill Tree designed to favor shields and survivability. Their new Action Skill, called Gravity Snare, amounts to a throwable trap that tosses enemies before smashing them to the ground.

With its ability to stop incoming attacks, FL4K essentially gains a means of crowd control. The new tree also features a new Hyperion Loaderboat pet option too. It can be specced for range with the ION Loader, charging with its BUL Loader or heavy firepower with the shotgun-focused WAR Loader. Release dates or windows were not mentioned for this new content, but Gearbox says it plans to reveal more about these updates in the coming months.
Borderlands 3 is available now on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
