However, at a recent ceremony in Alabama, one youngster commanded all the attention and totally stole the show thanks to his outlandish dance moves.
Sixth-grader Trevor Bolling performed The Mowgli's song "I'm Good" alongside his classmates at Highlands Elementary School in Dothan, and pulled out all the stops with his very theatrical performance.
In the footage, which was posted to Facebook on June 2, the 12-year-old can be seen acting out the lyrics, and writhing around to the song.
At one point he even throws his arms up above his head and swings his hips, before ending with the robot dance move.
The video is made all the more entertaining by some of his classmates' attempts to hold in their laughter, as well as their contrasting rigid performances.
The footage was filmed and posted to social media by Tara Singley, who is Bollings' teacher.
She told local newspaper, the Dothan Eagle, that the scene is indicative of the many nuances of character in a sixth-grade classroom.
Singley said: "Some were embarrassed to be in front of people. One was shy while trying to sing and make their parents proud.
"Some were hiding behind a friend. One was doing exactly what their teacher told them to do."
