'The Boys' Season 2 Release Date, Cast, Trailer, Plot

The Boys Season 2 has a release date this September, 15 months after the superhero satire's first season was a hit for Amazon Prime Video. The cast of the show will be joined by a Breaking Bad alum who was teased at the end of the last finale, as well as a new superhero who is set to join The Seven. The trailer for the new season of The Boys, meanwhile, revealed the plot for the latest episodes—as well as revealing a grisly scene where the crew has to climb through the carcass of a whale.

When is The Boys Season 2 out on Amazon?

The release date for The Boys Season 2 is Friday, September 4, when episodes will begin to stream on Amazon Prime Video. Whereas all episodes of the first season were released at once, Amazon is doing things a little different for the second season.

On September 4, the first three of eight episodes of the show will be released onto the streamer. However, fans will then have to wait for the next installment of the show. The remaining five episodes will air weekly on Fridays, with the Season 2 finale set to air on October 9.

The cast of superheroes from the first season is set to be back for more. Among those confirmed to return are:

  • Karl Urban - Billy Butcher
  • Jack Quaid - Hughie Campbell
  • Antony Starr - Homelander
  • Erin Moriarty - Starlight
  • Dominique McElligott - Queen Maeve
  • Jessie T. Usher - A-Train
  • Laz Alonso - Mother's Milk
  • Chace Crawford - The Deep

Two characters who will not be returning, however, are Star Trek star Simon Pegg, who confirmed he will not be back as Hugh Campbell Sr., and Translucent actor Alex Hassell, whose character remains very dead and very exploded. The Seven, however, will finally get a replacement for the super in the form of Stormfront, a female fighter with Thor-like powers played by You're The Worst star Aya Cash.

After making an appearance in the season finale, Breaking Bad and The Mandalorian's Giancarlo Esposito will be back as Stan Edgar, the CEO of the nefarious Vought company.

What will happen in The Boys Season 2?

The official Amazon Prime synopsis reads: "Season 2 finds The Boys on the run from the law, hunted by the Supes, and desperately trying to regroup and fight back against Vought.

"In hiding, Hughie (Jack Quaid), Mother's Milk (Laz Alonso), Frenchie (Tomer Capon) and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) try to adjust to a new normal, with Butcher (Karl Urban) nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, Starlight (Erin Moriarty) must navigate her place in The Seven as Homelander (Antony Starr) sets his sights on taking complete control.

"His power is threatened with the addition of Stormfront (Aya Cash), a social media-savvy new Supe, who has an agenda of her own. On top of that, the Supervillain threat takes center stage and makes waves as Vought seeks to capitalize on the nation's paranoia."

The trailer, however, revealed exactly what Butcher is up to. That promo reveals that his wife may still be alive and hidden somewhere by Vought, causing Karl Urban's character to try and hunt her down.

Speaking to Digital Trends, Urban said: "[Season 2] is very much about learning the origins of Billy Butcher and coming to understand that he is who he is well before the disappearance of [his wife] Becca. He's a lot more desperate. He's a lot more vulnerable. One of his main drives is to find his wife, and he needs The Boys to do it."

The Boys Season 2 is released from September 2 on Amazon Prime Video; Season 1 is streaming now.
