A bride's unconventional wedding speech has gone viral, after she playfully "roasted" her new in-laws—through song.

Megan and her husband Jamie married five years ago, after first meeting at university in the U.K. and discovering a shared love for music.

"Music was always something we did for fun, singing together at home and writing songs purely as a creative outlet," she told Newsweek.

In preparation for their wedding, they wrote a song together to perform at the reception, in which they thanked everyone who had been a part of their relationship.

Megan said: "We had written and performed a few funny songs for friends' weddings and birthdays, which always went down well. So when it came to our own wedding, we had a feeling people might be expecting something—but I don't think anyone anticipated sitting through a full 15-minute thank-you musical!"

The couple initially shared their full musical speech, with Megan singing and Jamie on the piano, to their YouTube account JamieAndMegan. But recently, they've been sharing snippets to TikTok, including one hilarious part where Megan roasts her in-laws.

In the brilliant viral video, viewed almost 5 million times since being posted to their account @jamieandmegan on January 23, Megan belts out the original song, starting by telling her father-in-law: "I don't know if you knew, everyday Jamie turns more into you."

She continues, to the tune of Hey Jude by The Beatles: "The tech, the filming but I don't care. As long as he doesn't start losing his hair!"

Wedding guests can be heard laughing along as Megan turns her sights to her mother-in-law, praising her for "raising this boy pretty well," and urging guests to "raise a glass to my mother and father-in-law."

"Thank you for everything that you've done, I promise I'll take care of your lovely son."

The playful roasting was taken from the full song Megan sang at her and Jamie's wedding, which included a musical ode to her own mother and father, set to the tune of Coldplay's Yellow, thanking them for teaching her everything she knows as she embarks on married life.

She sings heartfelt tributes to everyone from her maid of honor and sister, to her bridesmaids and friends, to her new husband's best friends, each with their own version of a famous song.

TikTok had a big reaction to the in-laws video, with one commenter writing: "Baz doesn't look too impressed! Do you think it was the hair joke?", but another suggested the father-in-law was "clearly just holding back emotion."

Another joked: "Your husband must have been furious because how could his speech have compared to that?! Awesome job!", but Megan responded clarifying, "We actually wrote it together, he's the one playing the piano!"

Some criticized the video, one writing "look at me", but one responded sarcastically: "It's not like it's her wedding or anything."

One user admitted she would "sob if my daughter-in-law did this," another agreeing: "Me too. She seems like such a nice girl. Would love this for my own son!"

As one put it: "You have a stunning voice and this was a beautiful tribute to your in-laws. They are lucky to have you."

Wedding

...

Megan told Newsweek her in-laws "absolutely loved it," and revealed Jamie's parents had played a "huge part in our wedding," with her father-in-law taking on the role of celebrant and conducting the ceremony.

"It felt right to take a moment to toast two amazing people who have supported us through thick and thin, while also having a bit of fun along the way."

She explained she and Jamie began sharing snippets of the song to TikTok to mark the fifth anniversary of first uploading the video to YouTube, which they initially did "as a simple way to show family abroad, who couldn't make the wedding."

"TikTok has introduced us to a whole new audience who love a bit of light-hearted fun just as much as we do," she said.

"What's even crazier is that something we originally did as a creative outlet has become a part-time job for me—I now write bespoke love songs for couples who want to turn their story into music. We feel so lucky that a spontaneous idea at our wedding has led to something so special!"

Now, five years into their marriage, Jamie and Megan have built a community online through their music, and have since added two new members to their musical family.

Megan told Newsweek: "These days, it's no longer just the two of us—our two little ones are right in the mix, both already obsessed with music."
