Brie Larson Just Got an NFT and People Have a Lot To Say About It

Actress Brie Larson changed her Twitter profile picture to a recently purchased NFT and Twitter had a lot to say about it.

NFTs — or Non-Fungible Tokens — have gained lots of popularity recently. An NFT can be a variety of digital items, such as artwork and videos, that someone can purchase. The tokens (or receipts of purchase) are stored on a blockchain. A blockchain is where people can go to see how much an NFT was purchased for. In an article written by CBR, over 300,000 people own NFTs and they're gaining more traction by the day.

Some NFT's are worth tens of millions of dollars. Artwork created by Beeple called "Everydays: The First 5000 Days" sold for $69.3 million. Winklemann sold "Human One" for $28.9 million and many others ranging from $7 million to $11 million.

Larson isn't the only A-list celebrity to change their profile pictures to NFT artwork. Reese Witherspoon, Eva Longoria, Gwyneth Paltrow, Serena Williams, Ozzy Osbourne, and Jimmy Fallon have also taken part. One Direction alum Liam Payne is so excited about NFTs, he created a separate Twitter account to only talk about NFTs.

In a tweet posted by Larson on February 4th, she shared that she was joining the world of NFTs. Her caption stated where she got the artwork, tagging them with a blue heart emoji. Her post has 12,000 quoted tweets and 6,500 likes and growing.

Fans are tweeting their disappointment to the Captain Marvel star.

"not brie larson changing her profile picture to an nft," @GeorgieBroad wrote.

"BRIE LARSON YOU BETRAYED ME DO YOU KNOW HOW DEEP IN THE TRENCHES I WAS FOR YOU IN 2019," @seegaylight said.

In a tweet with over 11,000 likes @collarsarcane said: "pov: you've defended brie larson from every bit of slander she's received but you can't defend her supporting nfts." They added a video of Tyra Banks screaming, "I was rooting for you. We were all rooting for you. How dare you?! Learn something from this!"

"brie larson's into NFTs???? my year is ruined," @breadwitchery tweeted.

In response to @breadwitchery's tweets, @sabastiansotelo responded saying, "You wouldn't think she would be into NFTs but it seems like some celebrities on are jumping on the bandwagon, and it looks like Brie Larson is one of them. It's disappointing for sure, to each their own I guess."

Another twitter user shared their disappointment. "It's wild how celebrities keep getting duped into this," they wrote. "I really hope she does some research and sees exactly why people are so disappointed about this."

"The more mainstream support/promotion NFTs get, the more people f***ing hate them and that's wonderful," another Twitter user said.

"after Gwyneth Paltrow made her pfp an NFT my immediate thought was 'oh god what if Brie Larson does it next' and here we f***ing are," @Patz2rMaya wrote.
