Brock Lesnar Reportedly Told Matt Riddle They'll "Never Work Together" During Royal Rumble Altercation

Lots of backstage news came out of the 2020 Royal Rumble, but perhaps the oddest was the reported verbal altercation between WWE Champion, Brock Lesnar and Matt Riddle.

Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet reported Sunday night that sources told him "The Beast" and Riddle passed each other backstage when Lesnar allegedly wanted to let the NXT Superstar "know the reality of the situation between them."

Alex McCarthy of TalkSport corroborated Pro Wrestling Sheet's report on Tuesday and reported what Lesnar allegedly told Riddle backstage at the Royal Rumble.

According to the report, Lesnar is said to have approached Riddle backstage and grabbed his shoulder to get his attention. Lesnar then allegedly said: "Kid, you might as well stop saying my name and tagging me in sh*t because you and I will never work together. Ever."

Riddle reportedly tried to talk with Brock, but Lesnar "kept it moving." TalkSport also says this altercation didn't affect Riddle's placement in the Royal Rumble or how he was ultimately eliminated. How it went down was according to plan.

Matt Riddle has said openly numerous times that he wants to be the one to retire Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania. Royal Rumble weekend was the first time the two men crossed paths.

This isn't the first time Riddle has been the ire of a WWE Legend. Back in June 2019, Riddle took to social media to criticize Goldberg's work in the ring, especially after his match with Undertaker at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia. Riddle and Goldberg would meet backstage at SummerSlam in August, which was taped and released on the WWE Network.

There's no indication that Riddle's altercation with Lesnar was captured by WWE.

The "Original Bro" took to social media on Tuesday to give fans a bit of an update on his Royal Rumble weekend.

Matt Riddle entered the men's Royal Rumble match in the number 23 spot and got some moves in - even against eventual winner Drew McIntyre - before being eliminated by King Corbin.

Riddle is set to wrestle this Wednesday on NXT, when he'll team with Pete Dunne in the finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament. Dunne and Riddle will face The Grizzled Young Veterans of NXT UK, with the winner getting an NXT Tag Team Championship shot at Takeover: Portland in February.
