Brooke's Big Kung-Phooey

IF YOU DIDN'T CATCH THE 30-second spot when it aired once, you won't get another chance. Intended as a spoof of the karate action-adventure genre, the promo for NBC's upcoming series ""Suddenly Susan'' was intended to showcase star Brooke Shields's reported gift for physical comedy. (In the show, she's a San Francisco magazine columnist.) Although the network had run the clip by some Asian-American staffers, a few outside groups complained that Brooke's grunting, kicking and chopping added up to an unflattering ethnic stereotype. ""It made some people uncomfortable,'' says NBC's Mike Nelson, ""so we pulled it immediately.'' The show itself seems enviably well shielded from harm's way: it will air between ""Seinfeld'' and ""E.R.''
