BTS, Aerosmith and Other Stars Donate Memorabilia for MusiCares Charity Auction

For the first time ever, K-pop superstars BTS are selling some of their items in a charity auction that will place them in them company of fellow musicians Aerosmith, Tom Petty, Carlos Santana, Taylor Swift and Halsey.

The online event—hosted by Julien's Auctions during Grammy Awards week on January 24 in Los Angeles —will be held in honor of the 30th anniversary of MusiCares, a non-profit organization closely affiliated with the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.

The items hitting the auction block include seven custom microphones used on tour and autographed by each singer in the seven-member boy band, and are expected fetch between $10,000-$20,000 collectively, according to Reuters.

"The microphones were used from 2017-2019 on the 'Love Yourself' tour," said Julien's Auctions executive director Martin Nolan in a statement Friday. "If you own something like this, signed by each member, that's highly collectible and in years to come will very likely continue to appreciate in value."

A press release for the charity event noted that BTS is the first group since the Beatles to score "three No.1s on the Billboard 200 in less than a year," while putting out three chart-topping albums in 2019 in addition to wrapping up a successful world tour.

However, the event's main attraction will be legendary rock band Aerosmith. "In the midst of celebrating 50 years as a band, Aerosmith will be recognized for their considerable philanthropic efforts over five decades and undeniable impact on American music history," Julien's auctions wrote in a statement.

Items up for grabs from the iconic rock band include an autographed Shure SM58 microphone and stand from singer Steven Tyler along with several of his personal scarves; a Les Paul Signature signed by Joe Perry Gibson guitar; and a "Rockin' Vegas Nights VIP Meet and Greet Package" through which the winner will get to meet the band.

As reported by Rolling Stone, other unique items fans will be excited to bid on include a "Nixon Ltd custom watch that boasts a leather band made from Tom Petty's own guitar strap"; Halsey's "Eastside" painting from her performance on Saturday Night Live earlier this year; and signed guitars from by Dave Grohl, Swift, Harry Styles, Pete Townshend and Santana.

According to the auction house, there are several ways to bid on the items, which go up for sale at 11 a.m. PST just two days before the 2020 Grammy Awards (advance bidding, however, starts Saturday December 27):

  • Through Julien's Auctions website in real time
  • Over the telephone through an auction house representative.
  • In person
  • Enter Absentee bids (included in the back of each catalogue).
