BTS New Album, Comeback Release Date Rumor Sends Fans Into Frenzy After 'Butter' Success

A new BTS album has been rumoured for release in July, according to South Korean news outlet SPO TV News. The report claimed the superstar group will make their comeback with a new studio album on July 9.

The seven-member band, formed of Jungkook, Jimin, RM, Jin, J-Hope, V and Suga, released their last studio album, Map of the Soul: 7, in 2020.

The date is a special for BTS fans, known as the ARMY, as that is the day they were given their official fandom name.

SPO TV also said BTS announced they were working on a new album, with an aim of releasing it in summer 2021, at a press conference for their latest track "Butter."

BTS' label, Big Hit Music, kept fans guessing as they told Newsen that they will only "reveal our artists' plans after they are finalized," according to a translation by Soompi.

Newsweek has contacted representatives of BTS for comment.

Despite no official confirmation of the news, the reports didn't stop fans from sharing their excitement on social media.

Twitter user @agustranda gushed: "nah because bts releasing an album on the 8th year of their career on the day they gave our fandom our name.... im in this bangtan sonyeondan s*** for life."

"A possible bts comeback on july 9th a new album on army day oh my god," @taeteland wrote.

@jimincIoud added: "NO BUT IF THE COMEBACK RUMOR IS TRUE THAT MEANS BTS WILL DROP THEIR NEW ALBUM ON JULY 9TH WHICH IS ALSO ARMY ANNIVERSARY DAY I'M-."

"Waking up to bts comeback news with a brand new album on July 9 I'M SO HAPPY GOOD MORNING TO ME," @SMlLEYJK posted.

The news comes after the group saw mass success with their second-ever English single, "Butter."

The feel-good summer track landed the group a staggering five Guinness World Records.

Most notably, the band broke two of their own previous records, which were set by their 2020 hit track "Dynamite."

"Butter" racked up 3.9 million concurrent viewers at its peak, compared to just 3 million for "Dynamite," therefore breaking the record for the most viewers for the premiere of a YouTube video.

The video also comfortably surpassed "Dynamite" with the most viewers on a music video in 24 hours.

Their latest track pulled in an eye-watering 108.2 million watchers within a day of being on the platform.

As if the achievements didn't speak for themselves, BTS now hold the number one and two spots on YouTube's All Time Top 24 Hour Music Debuts.
