Police Video Shows Good Samaritans Pulling Driver From Overturned, Burning Vehicle

The Westtown-East Goshen Police Department in Pennsylvania released dashcam video recorded last Wednesday showing several unidentified good Samaritans helping officers pull a driver from an overturned, burning vehicle.

Police say the incident began when a speeding Honda CR-V driver crashed into several parked cars in the Saints Simon and Jude School parking lot in Westtown Township, Pennsylvania, around 1:30 p.m. local time on March 14, WPVI-TV first reported. The department posted the video to social media hoping to identify the individuals who helped the driver they said could have likely perished without their assistance.

The vehicle became airborne after crossing several eastbound lanes of the West Chester Pike near South Chester Road before slamming into the parked cars in the Saints Simon and Jude School parking lot while classes were still in session. Police said the white Honda hit one parked vehicle so hard "that it traveled forward, striking the school building."

The dramatic video shows several people frantically extinguishing flames on the overturned vehicle before collaborating to push it over and right-side up. A police officer and another man can then be seen dragging the driver from the vehicle.

"Faculty members of the Saints Simon and Jude School were able to use numerous fire extinguishers to keep the fire from spreading until the driver could be extricated from beneath the vehicle," Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police wrote on their Facebook page Monday.

"Additionally, numerous citizens came to the aid of officers in rolling the vehicle off of the driver. Without their assistance, the incident could have ended in a tragic manner. It is our sincere hope that we will be able to identify those individuals who assisted at the scene and thank them for their compassionate and heroic actions."

Police said no one else including students or school staff were hurt in the crash, but the driver was taken to a nearby Paoli Hospital with minor injuries. Authorities have not indicated whether or not the driver was intoxicated or a cause for the crash.
