‘Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’ Blackout Trial: How to Download the Free-to-Play Demo

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is making its Blackout battle royale mode free-to-play through January 24. In this short guide, we’ll tell you how and where to download the demo on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

 

PS4 Blackout Free Trial Download Steps

  1. In the PlayStation Store search for “Blackout free trial” or click the associated link. It’s also featured in the “What’s Hot” section of the PlayStation Store.
  2. The demo will download to your PS4, allowing you to enjoy the Blackout portion of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. Zombies and multiplayer are not part of this free trial

Note that PlayStation Plus is not required to participate in the Blackout free trial. That means literally anyone with a PS4 can try it whether they pay for a subscription or not.

 

Xbox Blackout Free Trial Download Steps

  1. In the Microsoft Store search for “Blackout free trial” or click the associated link. If using the link, be sure to click the group of three dots and select the free trial option.
  2. The demo will download to your Xbox One, allowing you to enjoy the Blackout portion of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. Zombies and multiplayer are not part of this free trial.

Note that an Xbox Live Gold membership is required to participate in the Blackout free trial. You will need to pay for a subscription or use a trial one if you’d like to try the demo.

 

PC Blackout Free Trial Download Steps

  1. If you don’t have it already, download the Battle.net client from the its official website. Create an account if one has not already been made.
  2. Once logged in, you should be able to see the Blackout free trial on the front page of the “Try” section. If not, search for “Blackout free trial” in the search box. Click the result and press the button to install.
  3. The demo will download to your PC, allowing you to enjoy the Blackout portion of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. Zombies and multiplayer are not part of this free trial.

  • An exact end time for the Blackout free trial has not been announced. That being said, it will likely conclude around 1 p.m. EST on January 24.
  • To squad up with friends, simply enter a Duos or Quads Queue and bring up the social menu with triangle or Y. Select from your friends list to create a party, and they’ll join the lobby with you.
