'Call of Duty: Black Ops 4' Blackout Map Update Due Dec. 11, Maybe Hijacked

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 players have been enjoying a roughly unchanged Blackout map since September's pre-release beta, but it appears that stagnant period will finally come to an end Dec. 11. According to the latest tease from official Call of Duty social channels, a new section is being added.

The short clip was posted Tuesday afternoon and features a blinking radar dot on a black-and-white map image between Nuketown Island and Construction Site. While not overtly stated, the assumption is that a new location might spring up in that open area.

As for the location, look no further than images captured during a recent livestream with international soccer star Neymar Jr. In the background of the athlete's perspective during matches, fans spotted a never-before-seen poster for the Black Ops II map, Hijacked. The map takes place aboard a massive superyacht and is known for its close-quarters combat. A boat like the one featured in Hijacked would fit perfectly in the water-filled spot where the teaser's radar dot lies.

Just like week, Treyarch Game Design Director David Vonderhaar tweeted that his team was open to "adding, subtracting and morphing" the Blackout map in the future. During Game Informer's cover story visits, Vonderhaar also made indirect allusions to the large amount of water in the first iteration of the Blackout map. Taking all that into consideration, it would appear the return of Hijacked is more or less a guarantee.

The Blackout map update is expected to go live Dec. 11, but that presumably won't be the only feature of the patch. Over the past several weeks, Treyarch has released many large title updates for Black Ops 4. Just like the others, we expect this one to include fixes for multiplayer and Zombies as well. The revised Blackout map may also be exclusive to PS4 for a period of seven days.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is available now on PS4, Xbox One and PC. The game's next big update is due Dec. 11.
