'Call of Duty: Warzone' April 6 Update Nerfs AUG and FFAR - Patch Notes

Call of Duty: Warzone players who boot up the game today will notice they need to sit through a brief restart to install an update. Following the deployment of the hotfix, Warzone's developers at Raven Software have released some concise patch notes to let players know what to expect. Both the AUG and FFAR have been nerfed in order to keep gameplay competitive, and slight changes have been made to attachments as well. GENERAL

  • The Camo Challenges for the "R1 Shadowhunter" now appear correctly for the Geometric, Flora, and Science Camo Categories.

WEAPONS

  • Cold War Tactical Rifle Charlie
    • Recoil strength has been increased.
    • Burst weapons ride a fine line between inefficient and oppressive. The intent of this change is to maintain the weapon's identity of being a powerhouse while making it a bit more difficult to wield. Right now we feel it is too easy to stay on target given how lethal it is. We will continue to monitor the performance of the Tactical Rifle Charlie and make additional changes if necessary.
  • FFAR 1
    • ADS speed has been decreased.
    • The FFAR is a jack of all trades. It has the damage profile and range of an AR as well as the fire rate of an SMG. The FFAR's wholesale efficacy has it edging out SMGs at ranges we're not satisfied with. Ideally, the FFAR fulfills the role of a mid-range dominator while falling prey to weapons that excel in short-range engagements. We are bringing the FFAR a bit more in line with what you might expect from an AR—damage and range at the cost of handling.

ATTACHMENTS

  • Rear Grip attachments that showed ADS speed pros should now properly increase ADS speed.
  • Fixed a bug with the Groza where the 16.5" CMV Mil-Spec barrel would bypass damage falloff.
  • Fixed a bug with the Ember Sighting Point where the XM4 and AK-47 had their ADS speed increased rather than decreased.
  • Fixed a bug with the Salvo Fast Mag where the FFAR 1 and M16 were not having their ADS speed decreased.
  • The Pelington 703 Wrapped Suppressor effects should now be properly represented in the stat bar.

Given that previous nerfs to Tactical Rifle Charlie (also known as the AUG) haven't quite worked, it's no surprise that Raven has taken additional steps to nerf the gun's recoil yet again. After all, despite nerfing the AUG at the end of March alongside Season 2 Reloaded, that change didn't do much to impact the gun's dominant place in the meta. This subsequent nerf should turn its effectiveness down that much more.

The FFAR hasn't been the focus of quite as many balance passes lately, but that doesn't mean it's any less worthy of getting a second look from developers for similar reasons. Combined with its ability to aim down sights very quickly, its low recoil made it an obvious favorite for sniper support situations. Today's nerf doesn't totally break both of those advantages, but it does make one of them a bit less apparent.

As far as the other adjustments featured in the April 6 Warzone update are concerned, there's not much here worth discussion. Broken challenges should now work, and menus should now display the correct information for certain attachments. It'll be interesting to see if today's AUG nerf alters the meta in any meaningful way, but we imagine it'll still be a fairly popular choice for a little while longer. While small, today's Warzone update addresses its biggest flaws in the meta with surgical precision.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
