'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare' Season 5 Release: What Time Does It Start?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 5 is about to begin, introducing a host of new Operators, weapons, multiplayer maps and major changes to Warzone. What time does Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 5 start?

According to a promotional email referenced by the Call of Duty experts at Charlie INTEL, Season 5 is set to begin August 5 at 2 a.m. EDT with update 1.24. While major Modern Warfare updates used to release around 1 p.m. EDT, Infinity Ward has changed its policy in an effort to reduce internet traffic at peak times during the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, the Season 5 update will launch a little later than some fans may be anticipating.

What to expect from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 5

Compared to past updates, Activision has been pretty vocal about the big changes fans can expect to see once Season 5 starts on Wednesday. Below, we combine leaks and official data to offer the best possible sneak peek at what the update might entail.

  • Shadow Company Operators: Over the course of Season 5, players will be introduced to three new Shadow Company Operators named Lerch, Velikan and Roze. You can see them in the picture above.
  • Warzone map changes: Modern Warfare Season 5 will also introduce some significant changes to Verdansk, including the addition of a train and a fully opened Stadium.
  • New Weapons: The above teaser suggests the AN94 assault rifle and APC9 SMG will be added to the game. The latter of which has been a part of datamined files since the Modern Warfare beta, but now it looks like it's finally being added to the roster for good. It's worth noting the final names of these guns might also change relative to their leaked names.
  • New Maps: Season 5 includes two multiplayer maps, including the return of Oil Rig. There's also a new Gunfight map and new Ground War map as well.

All of these details should be taken with a grain of salt, but they at least offer some indication of what Season 5 might look like when it launches early Wednesday morning.
