Cara Delevingne 'Queer' Character in 'Only Murders' Reminds Her of Herself

Cara Delevingne admits she sees a lot of similarities between herself and the "English, queer" character she's playing in the second season of Only Murders in the Building.

While Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez all return for the second installment of the popular Hulu show, new cast members like Delevingne and Amy Schumer are joining too. The season starts with two episodes dropping on Tuesday, June 28, 2022.

Ahead of the Season 2 debut, Delevingne appeared at a special London screening of the show to discuss her arrival in the show.

"I wondered how they got the role," Delevingne told the event, attended by Newsweek, "but then they described the part to me and they were like, 'she's English, queer, and a wannabe artist'... I was like, 'that sounds like me'."

The 29-year-old actress joins the cast as Alice, the owner of an art gallery who becomes a new love interest for Mabel (Gomez).

"I got quite attached to the character," she continued. "I never usually play an English role, and I also never play a queer part, so I was kind of like, 'so what work do I have to do?' So I decided I'll change my hair, and be more involved in the clothes. It feels like I had to work harder to do something."

In the past, Delevingne has openly identified as bisexual and pansexual, and has been in relationships with a number of high-profile women. She dated actress Ashley Benson for two years and was recently accused of having an affair with Amber Heard. Recent leaked photos that have since gone viral allegedly show Delevingne and Heard kissing in an elevator.

Delevingne is an old friend of Gomez, and it was even revealed in January 2022 that they have matching watercolor tattoos. She also spoke glowingly about her experiences with the other two leading cast members.

"Steve and Marty, they are so good at what they do, but honestly there were so many times where I was like, 'why are they not filming this off set because they're just so ridiculous and funny.'"

"I do think they just found their creative soulmates, because they're just adorable, I can't even handle it," Delevingne raved.

"The first time I was on set, I was in Selena's dressing room and Marty came in and he was like, 'right, I want to see what you're like, I want to get to know you', and I was quite scared."

She continued, "We just started talking about condiments and the royal family and my views about things, it was so funny. They just so different and magical, I just really did not want it to end."

There's a new mystery to solve in Season 2 of Only Murders in the Building as the Season 1 finale ended with the death of Bunny Folger. Delevingne remained tight-lipped on the killer and assured everyone she doesn't know who did it.

Season 2 of Only Murders in the Building begins on Tuesday, June 28, on Hulu in the U.S. and on Disney+ in the U.K.. New episodes will then be released weekly, with the season finale expected to air on August 23, 2022.
