Cat Has Hilarious Reaction to Looking at Optical Illusion in Viral Video

An optical illusion is something that looks different from what it actually depicts. These visual tricks serve to baffle many people, and now we know that cats, too, can be left equally as flabbergasted.

In a video shared to TikTok by user Litto_Lychee we can see one feline's reaction to a printed optical illusion consisting of colorful geometric circles.

The clip, which has gone viral with more than 425,000 views, begins with the cat sitting on a carpet as the A4 paper containing the patterns is held up in front of it.

The animal scans the print-out, looking perplexed, as its tail wags back and forth.

After looking from side to side a few times the cat, clearly seeing the circles moving, then leaps towards the image to try and catch the shapes.

The hilarious footage, which can be watched here, is captioned: "Try this on your pets and duet me [cat emoji] [laughing-face emoji] #catsoftiktok #catvideos #funny #fyp #foryou #opticalillusions."

The funny clip has gained lots of traction online since it was posted on June 25, having surpassed 80,800 likes.

Many people have also rushed to the comments section to share their opinions on the video.

One TikTok user, Osa Alj, wrote: "He's like: oh it's moving that's cool... I'm gonna kill it [laughing-face emoji]."

Another person, Auracle, added: "Whoah it works on a cat, very interesting."

Kailin typed: "Inspired! On my way to download this for my cat."

Brandon Terreault commented from the perspective of the animal, writing: "Yeah... so what it's a picture... wait was that movement? Animal instincts: pounce! Wait its just the paper? How is the paper moving?"

Daniel Sawyer revealed: "Tried this with my cats and they couldn't care less about it/sigh oh well lol."

Muhammed Redha gushed: Wow she thinks they move, like us."

But how do these optical illusions work? Well, in simple terms, the Queensland Brain Institute explains: "Optical illusions happen when our brain and eyes try to speak to each other in simple language but the interpretation gets a bit mixed-up.

"For example, it thinks our eyes told it something is moving but that's not what the eyes meant to say to the brain."

Another optical illusion that recently confounded the internet was a photograph of a cat who looked like he had a human arm going directly through his torso.

The image, shared on October 14, went viral on Reddit and was shared by user Francis__99 along with the caption: "My sister's hand passing through my cat's body."
