Cat Hitches Ride in Baby Swing, Sparking Debate in Viral Post

A cat's ride in a moving baby swing has taken the internet by storm. Although some people are loving the content, others worry about the baby's health, and a debate has ensued.

The viral Reddit post was shared to the subreddit "Aww" on February 9 by u/farttransfer. The post is titled, "While we wait for the baby to come our cats try out all of the cool things we get for her." The post has over 80,000 upvotes and 1,600 comments so far.

The 16-second clip features a cat sitting in a motion baby swing that rocks gently in a circle. The cat just sits there calmly in the swing as the unit moves slowly, around and around. The cat seems content, and even looks up at the person behind the camera with no intention of moving any time soon.

According to Statista, as of 2018, there were 373 million pet cats in the world, as opposed to 471 million dogs. The website also reports that in 2017, there were 95.6 million cats in homes in the United States alone.

The internet has strong opinions about the cat and its new toy meant for a baby. Some seem to approve, while others are worried about how safe the situation is for a baby. "This cracked me up!" a Redditor said. "Love this cat's serious face as they slowly orbit."

Some think the swing isn't the baby's now. "I mean, this belongs to the cat now," a user joked.

Other comments included things like, "The look on the cat's face is hilarious," and "Cat tested, mother approved."

Some people had questions about the swing itself. "Do they make these for adults?" a Redditor asked.

One person has a similar predicament with their cats. "Adorable! I have three testing out our baby stuff while we wait for her to arrive," they revealed.

Some theorized how the cat will deal once a baby is using the swing. "I know that cat is going to glare at that babe because it knows it's a good spot and the human babe is in it," a viewer said.

But others were concerned about how sanitary it is for the baby. "Why do I find this kinda gross?" a Redditor asked.

Some people brought up toxoplasmosis, a disease caused by infection by the toxoplasma gondii parasite, which can be contracted from cat feces, according to the Mayo Clinic. "You'll give the baby toxoplasmosis," someone wrote.

To another Redditor that mentioned the disease, the OP added: "My cats are indoor cats and have never seen a mouse in their life. My cats actually don't like the baby chair or most of the baby stuff. I put her in it for a funny video to send to my wife. I promise everyone that I actually [do] clean haha. I won't be rubbing cat poop all over my baby."

One person didn't mince words about their thoughts on the matter. "Yes ... Get cat hair and bulls**t bacteria all over your newborn ... f***ing idiots. Gross," they said.

Others also don't seem to approve of the cat sitting in the baby swing. "Wow, your child is going to love having their newborn head right where your cat's a**hole is," they added. "Gross as f**k."

Some commenters aren't sure how the cat will react once a baby is using the swing that the cat has come to love. "Am I the only one who thinks it's very stupid to not set boundaries with something territorial like a cat?" a viewer asked.
