The sudden disappearance of 3 cats from a rental home in Colorado earlier this year sparked a frantic search that culminated in a creepy discovery.
Madison, from Fort Worth, took to her TikTok, @nala_leo_suli, to share footage of the moment earlier this year when her cats, Leo, Nala and Sully, stumbled upon something wild: a door leading to a secret room under the house.
“Our 3 cats had somehow discovered it one day and decided to explore for a couple hours,” Madison told Newsweek. “We couldn’t find them anywhere. We had definitely considered that one of us had maybe left a door or window open.”

The sound of the cats’ meows alerted Madison and her roommate to the secret space, which might otherwise have gone unnoticed. “A wall in the back of our storage closet in the basement swung open to a huge room underneath the house,” Madison said. “We had lived there for nearly 2 years before finding this out!”

...
The idea of finding an extra room in the house would sound like a dream to most Americans. In 2024, a survey of 1,000 U.S. homeowners conducted by Neighbor.com found that just over 1 in 4 felt they needed more space or wanted a bigger home.
Madison had a decidedly different reaction though. She said she was “pretty freaked out” to find it. “To make it even spookier, it had only 3 things in it: a Bible in a zip lock baggie sewn together by fishing wire, a large mason jar sealed full of dirt and rocks, and an old half-developed roll of film.”
Looking around the space, Madison felt her mind begin to wonder at what the space could have been used for at one time or another. “It seemed like someone was down there at some point,” she said.
Though Madison knew the property dated back to the 1970s, finding out more was all but impossible. “We were renting from a big company with many many rentals, so we assumed they probably didn’t even know anything about it,” she said.
In truth, the more Madison looked around, the more she was put off investigating any further. “We were pretty freaked out by it and decided to not go down there anymore,” she said. “But at least I think the cats had a blast exploring it.”
Madison and her roommate moved out a few months after the video was filmed and the footage was largely forgotten about until recently, when Madison decided to create the TikTok account @nala_leo_suli for their three cats.
“While we were going through all of our old videos of the cats, we came across that specific video and thought it was intriguing and funny enough to post on their account,” she said.
Madison hopes the video serves as a reminder to keep a close eye on pets around the home. “Cats are extremely curious animals,” she said. “You’ll never know what they discover!”
