Chainsaw-wielding Men Covered in Blood Reportedly Involved in Beach Fight

Police say a fight between a large group of people near Toronto's Cherry Beach broke out yesterday, with two people injured and two arrested.

Members of the public called Toronto police to the corner of Unwin Avenue and Cherry Street on Sunday morning. Const. Caroline de Kloet said some people were engaged in a physical fight, reported CTV news.

Social media users who say they witnessed the incident described seeing men wielding chainsaws in the trail leading up to Cherry Beach.

"Two guys with chainsaws covered in blood charging people," posted one Twitter user yesterday morning.

In a statement to Newsweek, a Toronto Police spokesperson said: "On Sunday, August 9, 2020, at 9:49 a.m., police were called to the Unwin Avenue and Cherry Street area, for an Assault in Progress of a large group of people.

"It is alleged that two men involved in the original altercation suffered injuries. They then left and returned with weapons.

"Officers arrived on scene and both men were arrested and charged accordingly.
This investigation is ongoing and anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the escalation of events are asked to contact investigators at 416-808-5104."

Video of the incident has also been posted on social media.

Facebook user Ward Jardine posted that he went out for coffee yesterday morning to be warned by a cyclist and runner not to go on the trail after seeing "two men covered in blood, carrying running chainsaws."

One Reddit user said: "Was biking by Cherry Beach at around 10am this morning and heard what sounded like a chainsaw. Saw a woman leap out from the beach across the path and desperately run into the forest. Was confused but kept on going to find dozens of police cars flying up cherry street towards the water."

Another Reddit user says they notified police of the incident. "I was there and believe I was the first to call 911. I was running along the trail and saw two guys pick up chainsaws. They started lunging at cyclists - I jumped into the woods and took some photos. I called 911 after. They were both bleeding, seems like they had attacked one another (??) and were in rough shape themselves. Then the started lunging at people as they went Eastbound."

Toronto Police arrived quickly to deal with the situation and alerted the public via Twitter. Witnesses said patrols remained at the scene until Sunday afternoon.
