Over the past several years, Kansas City Chiefs fans have been rather spoiled. Beyond the on-field results—the AFC championship appearances and Super Bowl titles speak for themselves—that success has made the club a fixture on national television. If you're trying to watch Patrick Mahomes and company from outside of the local market, it's been pretty easy.

But, in a reversal of fortune, this weekend's wild card game is much less accessible. While playoff games are usually national broadcasts, the Chiefs-Dolphins game will be streaming on Peacock. That puts it behind a paywall.

While fans were understandably irked by that move, at least one Chief is on their side: Charles Omenihu. And the defensive lineman is putting his money where his mouth is in an attempt to help out.

Omenihu Offers To Pay for Fans' Peacock

Once we learned that the Chiefs' opening playoff game would be streaming-only (outside of the two teams' local markets), there were plenty of social media quips about the league trying to squeeze a bit of extra money out of the Swifties. Omenihu didn't have any jokes, but he did head online to voice his displeasure.

"Us playing on peacock ONLY is insane I won't lie," he wrote on January 7. As you might imagine, that post garnered plenty of support with more than 400 reposts and over 6,000 quotes.

Roughly two days later, the defensive end followed up.

"Alright Chiefs Kingdom, I saw the comments and want y'all to be able to watch us play...So, I'm giving away 90 3-month Peacock memberships! To enter to win, reply to this tweet with why you should get picked. Picking winners Friday," the post read.

Omenihu also shared a screenshot of his post on Instagram with a slightly different caption.

"Chiefs Kingdom," he wrote. "I want y'all to be able to watch us play Saturday! Comment below to enter to win. Picking 90 winners on Friday. Now let's start the playoffs off right!"

Omenihu also directed questions to Legacy Philanthropy; Newsweek reached out via email requesting further comment on how this plan came together.

While you could feel cynical and argue that giving away 90 Peacock subscriptions isn't much for a player who had $8.6 million guaranteed upon signing his current contract, the gesture seems to be largely appreciated. Many replies on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, simply wanted to thank the Texas product for stepping up.

"This is amazing bro," one user said, as another wrote: "Yo, this is super thoughtful. What a great way to show love to Chiefs Kingdom."

A third said: "I'm already subscribed to Peacock. I just wanted to say this is an awesome gesture you're doing for the fans. I love it. As a Chiefs fan I hope you get a ring this year, and as person, I hope you get a ring this year. #ChiefsKingdom"

And given the weather, there could be an added motivation to watch at home. There's a brutal weather forecast on the cards, and fans could be excused for not wanting to sit in freezing temperatures after dark. That game will be on local television, but plenty of fans live outside of the market boundaries.

By offering to pay for some Peacock memberships, Omenihu is stepping up for the folks who cheer the Chiefs on every weekend. Now, it will be incumbent on the team to give those viewers a show on Saturday night.
