Anthony Guglielmi, the Chief Communications Officer for the Chicago Police Department, tweeted that there were reports of shots being fired near Mercy Hospital And Medical Center in Chicago. He asked the public to avoid the area and said, "heavy police response incoming."

Guglielmi later tweeted that there were reports of multiple victims and that at least one possible offender was shot. At 3:45 p.m. CDT, officers were conducting a methodical search of the hospital, according to Guglielmi.
