Chris Daughtry Reveals Effort To Save Stepdaughter, Confirms Cause of Death

Chris Daughtry has opened up about his family's efforts to save his stepdaughter's life, as he also revealed the cause of her sudden death.

A police investigation was launched after Price, 25, was found dead in her home in Fentress County, Tennessee, on November 12.

In a new statement shared with People, musician Daughtry—who raised Price along with his wife Deanna Daughtry—has revealed that she died by suicide while under the influence of narcotics.

"Our beloved Daughter Hannah Price passed away on November 12th, 2021," began the family statement. "Much speculation has been made since that date, and after a full investigation by law enforcement we are now able to speak in further detail."

According to the statement, Price had grappled with mental illness "from a young age," and "was in and out of therapy and treatment centers" over the years.

"As Hannah got older, she struggled to find her footing and began using drugs and often found herself in abusive relationships," the statement continued. "Just months after losing her biological father to suicide, Hannah was the victim of a crime and was shot in the face."

Detailing how the family had made efforts to help Price through her struggles, the statement said: "We did everything we could to support her and get her the help she needed to recover from these tragedies and get her life back on track.

"We had just recently made plans with Hannah for her to seek further treatment and move closer to the family."

Hours before her death, Price contacted members of her family and informed them that she was "in fear for her life," after her boyfriend, Bobby Jolly, allegedly physically assaulted her and took her car, per the statement.

The family went on to recount how it had immediately contacted the Fentress County Police Department to perform a wellness check. Following their check, authorities determined that Price was "OK" after speaking with her and left without incident.

Price was later found dead by her boyfriend, who called 911. According to the statement, a subsequent investigation by the Fentress County District Attorney, Fentress County Sheriff Office and the Knoxville Medical Examiners Office determined her official cause of death with no evidence of foul play.

The Daughtry family concluded their statement by paying tribute to "generous and loving" Price, as they also urged those experiencing mental health issues, abuse or addiction to seek help "immediately."

"Hannah was a generous and loving person who wanted more for herself and others," read the statement. "She will forever be in the hearts and minds of those of us who love her.

"I am still processing the last 24 hours," the singer captioned a close-up photo of Price. "I am absolutely devastated and heartbroken.

"I just recently lost my mother to cancer but I was blessed with the chance to say goodbye and I was processing it privately. We never got to say goodbye to our precious Hannah and it's another huge hit to our family.

"Thank you all for your kind words and condolences. They are truly felt and appreciated. I am now taking time be present with my family as we attempt to heal from this devastating loss."

"Hannah, I love you," he concluded his post. "I miss you. I wish I could hold you. This hurts so deeply."

Deanna Daughtry, who has been married to the American Idol alum since 2000, also paid tribute to her eldest child, posting a collection of photos of Price.

The mother of four wrote: "My first born. I love you endlessly Hannah. Our family would like to thank you all for the outpouring of love as we grieve the loss of our daughter Hannah.

"We are awaiting the autopsy results to determine how Hannah sustained the injuries that caused her death. Our hearts are broken."

Deanna Daughtry, 48, had two children from a previous relationship when she embarked on a relationship with the singer, 42. The couple share 11-year-old twins Adalynn Rose and Noah James.
