What Chrishell Stause Has Said About Her Parents' Death

Chrishell Stause has been a part of the show Selling Sunset since it began in 2019. Over the past four seasons, Chrishell's personal life has played out in front of the cameras, in particular, her separation and divorce from her husband This Is Us star, Justin Hartley.

Around the same time as her divorce, Stause lost both of her parents Ranae Stause and Jeff Stause. They both died from lung cancer almost one year apart — her mother Ranae died in July 2020, and Jeff, her adoptive father, in April 2019.

She announced the news of her mother's passing on Instagram several photos and in a lengthy post where she paid tribute to her "beautiful mom."

Chrishell penned: "Absolutely heartbreaking watching you take your last labored breath, but there is peace knowing you two are together again, free from the pain that plagued your time here. A free spirit and rebel till the very end."

She also expressed her thanks to the staff at Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center for looking after her mom in her final days.

In April 2019, Stause opened up about her father's passing, also via her Instagram.

She wrote: "We lost you today, but it was a long terrible battle with cancer that started taking you years ago.

"I choose to remember you the way you were before it took its hold on you. You are at peace now, and ever the Catholic man at heart, I think you chose Easter for a reason. I grew up in an unconventional family and my dad was a drummer-the heartbeat of the music. Today we lost the heartbeat of our family but I am happy knowing he took his music to heaven. It just got a lot more rock and roll up there. We love you so much."

In Selling Sunset Season 4, Stause reflected on what a hard year 2020 had been for her.

In the first episode, Chrishell shared: "2020 has been the year of amazing highs and incredible lows.

"From going through a divorce to losing both my parents and then going on Dancing With the Stars. After everything I went through, I really put a lot of focus on my career, so now I would definitely say I am one of the tops selling agents at The Oppenheim Group and I worked really hard and I'm finally in a place to buy my own house so things are definitely looking up."

Stause has also spoken out about her parents' deaths and her love for her family in the past.

During her time on Dancing With the Stars Season 29 in 2020, Stause paid tribute to her parents with an emotional contemporary routine set to "Stars" by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals.

After her performance with professional partner Gleb Savchenko, judge Carrie Ann told Chrishell: 'I'm sure that Renée and Jeff Stause are watching over you and very proud of you. You poured your heart and soul into that dance."

Speaking about the tribute, Chrishell told Entertainment Tonight: "I feel like it was a special night and a special moment. I feel like it is something I will never forget... I really felt them tonight.'

Chrishell also used the performance to raise awareness of cancer and to draw attention to Stand Up To Cancer, an organization focused on beating cancer once and for all.

Selling Sunset is streaming on Netflix now.
