Chrissy Teigen Celebrates Her First 'Sober' Trip to Italy After Ditching Alcohol

Chrissy Teigen has revealed that she recently enjoyed her first sober trip to Italy, after ditching alcohol at the end of 2019.

The model, 35, took to Instagram on Sunday to share photos of herself looking glamorous in a feathered Zuhair Murad gown, which she wore to a United Nations Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) gala in Capri.

Joining her musician husband John Legend at the event, Teigen admitted in her caption that it felt "trippy" to not be "wasted" at the glamorous soirée.

Recounting the details of her whirlwind trip, the Utah native wrote: "car plane car lunch lunch car plane another plane another car boat lunch dinner dinner dinner another car another boat plane another plane car HOME!! we haven't done something like this for soooo long, it made us feel young again!"

After issuing a long list of thank-yous, which included the Italian arm of UNICEF and luxury fashion retailer LuisaViaRoma, who hosted the event, Teigen expressed her joy at having enjoyed the experience free of alcohol.

"But really thanks for making me feel so pretty and helping me along in my quest to have my first sober Italian getaway," she wrote. "I hate the word sober by the way, it's so rehab/medical. Anyhow honestly it was so so trippy being sober at something you typically would have been wasted at.

"That paired with all the crazy hot young models and club dudes and seeing your young self over and over, oh man it was crazy. anyhow I dunno. I'm rambling. we had so much fun. I didn't do anything I'd regret and I'm glad I'll get to remember it all!!"

A host of stars attended the event, including Emily Ratajkowski, Eiza González, Cindy Bruna, Sabrina Elba, Maria Bakalova, Dylan Penn, Karolina Kurkova, Natasha Poly, and Nicky Hilton Rothschild, according to Vogue.

Teigen's husband Legend and chart-topping singer Katy Perry were on hand to provide the night's musical entertainment, per Vogue.

Teigen revealed on Instagram at the end of December 2019 that she was three weeks' sober after giving up liquor.

"One month ago, on my birthday, I got this book from my doctor and friend," she wrote in an Instagram Story at the time, according to Buzzfeed. "I was done with making an a** of myself in front of people (I'm still embarrassed), tired of day drinking and feeling like shit at 6, not being able to sleep. I have been sober ever since."

In an August 2017 interview with Cosmopolitan, Teigen spoke candidly about how her relationship with alcohol had changed over the years.

"I got used to being in hair and makeup and having a glass of wine," the Lip Sync Battle star said. "Then that glass of wine would carry over into me having one before the awards show. And then a bunch at the awards show. And then I felt bad for making kind of an ass of myself to people that I really respected. And that feeling, there's just nothing like that. You feel horrible."

"I knew in my heart it wasn't right," she continued. "It makes you very short with people. People think it's cutesy and fun to go on these boozy brunches, but there's more to it. I've never once been like, 'I'm sure glad I had that boozy brunch!'"

"I used to think it was kind of nutty to have to go totally sober," Teigen added, "but now I get it. I don't want to be that person... I have to fix myself."

After attending President Joe Biden's inauguration in January, Teigen shared a photo of herself, her husband and their two children standing in view of the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C.

She said in an accompanying caption: "Just incredible to be here. sober. I know that's weird but it's like...a different world for me. everything is new and better. very happy. the most happy bigly happy."
