'Clash of Clans' TH12 Balance Update Offers Major Cuts to In-Game Timers

Clash of Clans received a rather surprising update Tuesday morning that drastically reduces times for building upgrades, troop upgrades, research and Hero-regen. The change, as detailed on the game's official forums, arrives weeks after the debut of Town Hall 12.

Supercell did not offer any specific reasoning for the sudden change in its post, but it's left some players wondering if the Town Hall 12 update was enough to reignite community engagement with this six-year-old game. It's also possibly a slight admission on Supercell's part that time-based methods of mobile monetization aren't as effective as they used to be. With loot boxes and direct-unlock skins becoming more common, audiences may be less willing to wait several hours or days to unlock new goods. Regardless of rationale, pretty much every Clash of Clans player will appreciate the tweaks listed above. Especially as Supercell continues to add defense and troop levels with future updates, it's nice to see the upgrade times get a little faster.

Clash of Clans ' Town Hall 12 update released earlier this month, adding Siege Machines, the Electro Dragon troop and a slew of balance changes to give players more loot. Today's update takes that community-first message one step further.
