The New York Yankees made a huge trade for Cody Bellinger last winter, but the star slugger opted out of his contract after a good season with the Yankees.
Now that Bellinger is a free agent, there are plenty of teams that could pursue him on a huge deal. The star slugger is one of the best position players on the market right now, so there's a chance the Yankees lose him if they're not aggressive enough.
ESPN's David Schoenfield predicted on Wednesday that the Yankees would lose Bellinger to the New York Mets on a six-year, $180 million deal this offseason.

"Stearns is clearly emphasizing defense -- bringing in Marcus Semien to play second base and ditching Alonso," Schoenfield wrote. "Bellinger fits in that regard, especially in left field, where he would be a plus defender, and he can handle center as well.
"The Dodgers could be in the mix here as well, but that outfield hole for the Mets is glaring. If they aren't going to sign Tucker and if they're not willing to give a long-term deal to a pitcher, Bellinger is the best fit for them at the top of the market."
The Mets need to make some big moves in the coming weeks. They've already lost Edwin Diaz, Pete Alonso, Tyler Rogers, and Ryan Helsley, among others.
Stealing Bellinger from the Yankees would be a huge step in the right direction for the Mets. It would be reminiscent of the Mets stealing Juan Soto from the Yankees last offseason.
Bellinger would fit perfectly as a replacement for Cedric Mullins. The Mets have the money to sign him, too. The fit makes perfect sense for both sides.
