When Is the College Football Playoff National Championship Game? Date, Kickoff Time, TV Channel for Clemson vs. LSU

The college football season reaches its climax on Monday when Clemson and LSU collide in the College Football Playoff national championship game in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The only two programs left in the FBS, LSU and Clemson entered the CFP as the No. 1 and No. 3 ranked teams respectively, and arrive at the title decider with 14-0 records built on high-octane offenses.

LSU and Clemson ranked first and third in total offense during the regular season at an average of 564.1 and 538.4 yards per game and first and fourth in total offense, scoring an average of 48.9 and 45.3 points per game.

Both teams have star-studded rosters headed by stud quarterbacks, in the shape of Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence.

The former has enjoyed a breakout season in his senior year, completing 77.9 percent of his passes, throwing for 4,715 passing yards, 48 touchdowns—both SEC records—and just six interceptions.

Burrow, who transferred from Ohio State to LSU two years ago, won the Heisman Trophy earlier this month by the biggest margin in history and underlined his credentials as LSU trounced Oklahoma 63-28 in the semifinal of the College Football Playoff.

The LSU star threw for seven touchdowns and 493 yards, adding a score on the ground, as the Tigers torched the Sooners to reach the CFP national title game for the first time.

Lawrence, meanwhile, has won 25 straight games as a starter and extending its winning streak to 26 would see Clemson successfully defend the title it won 12 months ago against Alabama.

The Tigers last tasted defeat against Alabama in the CFP semifinal in January 2018 and are one win away from becoming the first program to complete back-to-back 15-0 seasons.

While Clemson is making its fourth appearance in the CFP national championship game since the playoff's inception in 2014, Monday will mark LSU's debut on this stage.

The Tigers haven't competed for the national title since 2011, when they lost 21-0 to Alabama in the BCS National Championship Game—as it was called then—and will be desperate to claim a first national title in 13 years.

The omens are good for LSU, as its triumph over Ohio State came in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, the same venue that will host the CFP title game this year.
