College Football Rankings for Week 8 (10/13/19)
The college football rankings got a little shakeup at the top after this weekend's games, including a big move by LSU to No. 2, in the newest Associated Press Top 25 released Sunday afternoon. Alabama remained No. 1 while Clemson dropped to No. 3.
Alabama went on the road to beat Texas A&M, 47-28. The Aggies were previously No. 24 and fell out of the rankings with their third loss of the season. Clemson crushed ACC rival Florida State, 45-14, but slipped one spot to No. 3 after LSU rose three spots—combined with a Georgia loss.
Georgia fell from the third spot after a shocking 20-17 double-overtime loss at home to SEC East foe South Carolina. Georgia missed a field goal in the second overtime that would have tied the game and sent it to a third overtime, but instead the Bulldogs lost and tumbled to the No. 10 spot.
LSU moved up three positions to take the No. 2 spot after a convincing 42-28 win over Florida, which was No. 7 and fell two spots.
Should things hold in the polls, No. 2 LSU will travel to No. 1 Alabama on Nov. 9 for an SEC West showdown that will have huge implications on the College Football Playoff landscape. However, other teams nipping at their heels might have something to say about that.
Ohio State, which was tied for the No. 3 spot last week with Georgia, slipped to No. 4 after an idle week. Oklahoma is the new No. 5 after a 34-27 win over Texas in the Red River Showdown at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Texas fell four spots to No. 15 this week.
Two schools from the Big 10—Wisconsin and Penn State—each moved up two spots to No. 6 and 7, respectively. Notre Dame is No. 8, followed by Florida and Georgia to round out the top 10.
Auburn, Oregon, Utah, Boise State and Texas have Nos. 11-15, while Michigan, Arizona State, Baylor, SMU and Minnesota round out the top 20. Baylor and SMU, each with 6-0 records, are the only remaining undefeated FBS schools from the state of Texas.
Minnesota, Missouri, Appalachian State and Washington entered the Top 25 this week while Wake Forest, Virginia, Memphis and Texas A&M dropped out of the rankings after losses.
Top 25 matchups this week are:
No. 16 Michigan at No. 7 Penn State
No. 12 Oregon at No. 25 Washington
No. 17 Arizona State at No. 13 Utah
