A commuter who parked their bike at a bike rack for the day was left both stunned and amused by the note they found attached to it when they returned.

In a post on Reddit, user No_Error_2522 attached a photo of the sticky note, which read, "Be more mindful of how many spots you are taking up."

In the second photo, the original poster (OP) showed that despite the fact that their bike was indeed taking up multiple spots, it was the only bike locked up on a rack that stretched well over 20 spots long.

In the comments, the original poster (OP) added, "I should mention this is LA, not the Netherlands. This rack has literally never been full."

Reddit users weighed in via the comments, with one noting, "It’s kinda sad not more people choose to bike in a place where they have the fortune of no snow.

"Living in Finland, I’m dying for summer to come back so I can go on leisure rides again (I bike all winter too, but it’s not 'enjoyable')."

"Well, don't bloody hog 'em all, mate," another user quipped, with a third adding, "Next time, put it sticking straight out so you can get a sticky note complaining you are blocking the sidewalk."

Some commenters, however, weren't convinced the note was from someone truly angry.

"A harmless prank," one suggested, while another suggested the OP had written the note themselves.

"We need OP to post a handwriting sample for comparison," they wrote, though another commenter pointed out, "OP will be in the comments writing with their non-dominant hand."

'I can assure you'

In a message to Newsweek, the OP explained that the first thing they thought when they saw the note was, "this would do numbers on r/mildlyinfuriating."

"I can assure you that that bike rack has never been full," they said. "The rack is outside of Perloff Hall on UCLA’s campus."

They continued, "After I saw the note, I started locking my bike the 'correct' way, which involved shoving it into the hedge behind the rack.

"I think the note writer was probably just joking, though."

More Biking Coverage

Newsweek has previously covered numerous stories involving bicycling.

One cyclist spotted a kitten on the side of the road and pulled over, and after saving its life, he would later adopt the kitten.

A woman shared a video of her boyfriend trying to learn to ride his bike, which ended in hysterics when he fell at a near-standstill into a nearby fence, accidentally putting his arm through it.
