'The Conners' Spoilers: Matthew Broderick is Aunt Jackie's New Love Interest, Darlene Meets David's Girlfriend on Episode 3

Love usually comes knocking on the door when you least expect it, and such will be the case for Aunt Jackie on Season 1 of The Conners. The ABC show's beloved and neurotic character, played by Laurie Metcalf, will take on a new love interest when Matthew Broderick joins the cast in a recurring role, Deadline reported Friday.

Details have yet to be revealed about Broderick's character and his connection to Aunt Jackie, who is currently grieving the death of her sister Roseanne along with the rest of the Conner family. The network noted Broderick will play a man named Peter and will make his first appearance on the fourth episode of the season, titled, "There Won't Be Blood," and scheduled to air on October 30.

Fans have long anticipated a new romance for Jackie. The last time the character was in a relationship was with her ex-husband Fred (Michael O'Keefe) on Seasons 6-8 of the former ABC series Roseanne.

Romance and relationships will become a recurring theme on The Conners before Broderick's character makes his grand debut on the show. Darlene Conner, played by Sara Gilbert, will get a romantic refresher of her own in the upcoming episode, titled "Tangled Up In Blue," airing on Tuesday.

Of course, it will take some convincing to get Darlene back out on the dating scene following her divorce from David (Johnny Galecki), but her decision to put herself back on the market may come easier after she meets David's new girlfriend, Blue (Juliette Lewis) for the first time.

"Darlene is in for one surprise after another when David introduces his girlfriend, Blue, at a parent-teacher conference and mentions that Mark and Harris will be spending the weekend with them. Dan hires Becky to help out at work, but they both come to learn that she might need more help than she can offer," the episode 3 synopsis revealed.

The Conners airs on ABC at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesdays.
