Conservative Activist Candace Owens Calls Antifa ‘Neo-KKK’ Before Speaking at Ivy League Republican Event

The announcement of Candace Owens speaking at the Republican chapter of an Ivy League school stirred up a local antifa group, and a war of words fired across social media over the weekend and leading up to Monday night’s event.

Owens, a black conservative political activist and commentator, was set to speak to the University of Pennsylvania’s College Republicans group on Monday, and she posted a video of her chatting with a handful of young black men while a siren blared in the background at the college. While the siren wailed, little could be heard what was said from anyone in the 1-minute clip.

But before the siren began, someone wearing what looked to be a mask covering their entire face yelled, “Get the f*** out of Philly. Get the f*** out.”

A mask covering the face is one of antifa’s identifying markers. Before that, someone without a mask could be seen yelling “a**hole” to Owens.

Owens posted the video of protests as she was apparently headed to speak Monday evening. With the video, she wrote, “Antifa is here!! Enjoy this video of the neo-KKK stalking and harassing me as I try to invite a group of peaceful black students into my event at UPENN.

The Democrat’s domestic terrorist arm strike again!

Too bad we will NEVER BACK DOWN. WE WILL BE FREE.”

Owens, 29, is the communications director for Turning Point USA, a conservative group whose mission is to “identify, educate, train and organize students to promote the principles of freedom, free markets and limited government,” according to its website.

Last Tuesday she appeared before the House Judiciary Committee hearing on "Hate Crimes and the Rise of White Nationalism." When California Democrat Rep. Ted Lieu played an audio clip from December 2018 of Owens speaking about Adolph Hitler.

In the clip, Owens reportedly said Hitler focused on eliminating all non-Aryans to "make Germany great and have things run well, OK then, fine."

Owens chastised Lieu for not playing the “full clip in its entirety,” saying he thinks "black people are stupid."

Before her visit to Penn, ANTIFA Philadelphia mounted an online campaign to prevent Owens from speaking at Penn, attacking her through Twitter.

“Hitler admiring, far-right, anti-immigrant fear monger Candace Owens brings her outrageously wrong and backwards 'ideology' to UPenn on Monday, for real y'all are an Ivy League School? Y'all should have that revoked,” ANTIFA Philadelphia’s tweet read.

Once Owens was announced as the speaker at Monday’s College Republican meeting, and fliers got posted around Penn’s campus, a tactical approach began to keep her from speaking, as indicated by Fellow Worker Gritty, who has more than 15,000 followers and called the group Owens represents “a threat to our city.”

“While less aggressive tactics continue, such as phone calls, emails, speaking with the staff, and spreading awareness on social media, it seems likely that a large-scale confrontation is inevitable. We consider TPUSA to be a threat to our city.”

Last month President Donald Trump signed an executive order to guarantee free speech on college campuses — before a crowded room of reportedly conservative students. The “free speech” order was designed to allow conservatives an equal say on college campuses without harassment.
