Copa America 2021: Argentina vs. Paraguay Kickoff Time, How to Watch on TV and Online
Argentina take on Paraguay in their third Copa America game on Monday night hoping to take a decisive step towards the knockout stage.
The two-time World Cup winners top Group A alongside Chile with four points after two games, a point ahead of Paraguay, who defeated Bolivia 3-0 in the only game they have played so far.
Bolivia, like Uruguay, are still looking for their first point but have played one game more than the latter, who lost 1-0 to Argentina in their tournament debut on Friday night.
Guido Rodriguez headed home Lionel Messi's cross 13 minutes into the game to notch his first ever international goal and secure Argentina's first win of the 2021 Copa America.
The Albiceleste had let a one-goal lead slip to draw 1-1 against Chile in their opening game of the tournament last week, prompting Messi to urge his teammates to step up.
The Barcelona star, who will equal Javier Mascherano's all-time record of 147 appearances for Argentina on Monday, got his wish as his team never looked troubled after taking an early lead.
A win against Paraguay could leave Argentina alone at the top of Group A come Monday night, depending on the outcome of the game between Chile and Uruguay, which kicks off at 5 p.m. ET.
With five teams in both groups and four each going through to the knockout stage, a win would almost certainly guarantee Argentina a berth in the round of 16.
Paraguay, however, also have their sight set on taking control of the group after defeating Bolivia 3-1 in its opening game.
A penalty from Erwin Saavedra put Bolivia in front 10 minutes into the game, before they lost Jaume Cuéllar to a red card late into first half stoppage time.
Paraguay then made their numerical superiority count, scoring three times in 18 second half minutes to turn the game on its head. Alejandro Romero equalized with 62 minutes played, before Ángel Romero added a second three minutes later, and then completed his brace 10 minutes before the end.
While Argentina are unbeaten in their last 15 games in all competitions, they have not beaten Paraguay in the last six years, with three of the last four meetings between the two ending in a draw.
