U.S. States Where Coronavirus Cases Are Falling

Novel coronavirus cases in the U.S. are approaching nearly 5.8 million, according to the latest report Wednesday by Johns Hopkins University.

Here we look at the states that have seen a decrease in average daily case counts over a 14-day period from August 11 to 24, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.

Daily case counts below reflect a three-day moving average of daily new cases reported from August 11 to 24.

California

  • Day 1 (August 11): 10,543.33
  • Day 14 (August 24): 5,532.33
  • Highest daily case count in 14-day period: 11,385 on August 13
  • Lowest daily case count in 14-day period: 5,438 on August 16

Average daily new cases in California have been on a downward in the recent 14-day period. But the average daily case count has been mostly increasing from late March, before slightly flattening out from early July through August.

Florida

  • Day 1 (August 11): 6,031.67
  • Day 14 (August 24): 2,635
  • Highest daily case count in 14-day period: 6,831 on August 13
  • Lowest daily case count in 14-day period: 2635 on August 24

Average daily new cases have been mostly decreasing since July 12, when it peaked at 12,761. The average daily case count remained mostly flat from late March to early June, after which rose sharply through early July.

Texas

Average daily new infections in Texas have been on a downward trend since July 16, when the average daily case tally peaked at 12,730. It rose on a steep incline from June to mid-July.
