Costco Hot Cocoa Bombs Explode Across TikTok in Viral Food Trend

Costco's hot cocoa bombs that explode to reveal marshmallows are the latest food trend taking over TikTok. The sweet trend has arrived just in time for the fall season, taking the reigns from the iced dalgona coffee that was popular on the app over the summer.

TikTok users have fallen for the hot cocoa trend, with the tag #chocolatebomb amassing more than 22 million views plus millions more on the #hotchocolatebomb, #cocoabomb, and #hotcocoabomb tags.

The hot cocoa bomb trend has TikTok users place the chocolate sphere into a mug before pouring warm milk over the top. The cocoa bomb then melts away to reveal cocoa powder and marshmallows to swirl into the drink.

One TikTok user, @brennnabooo, shared a video of her melting the chocolate bomb with a caption explaining that there are four drool-worthy flavors.

How to make hot cocoa bombs

Instagram user @CostcoHotFinds revealed that Costco sells its own multipack of 16 chocolate bombs for under $20 dollars, including flavors such as milk chocolate, strawberry, s'mores, and salted caramel.

Costco's set is festively packaged ready for Christmas in red, green, gold, and silver.

However, creative TikTok users are also sharing their own recipes and methods to create their own customizable chocolate bombs.

For example, TikTok user @cristina_yin shared a helpful tutorial demonstrating how she makes the chocolate bomb, along with the satisfying end result.

The simple recipe requires a silicon mold, chocolate, cocoa powder, and marshmallows, with optional extras like sprinkles.

First, melt the chocolate and coat the silicon mold, before letting it cool and dry. Carefully take the half-spheres out of the mold and fill one half with cocoa powder, marshmallows, and the optional extras. Gently melt the rim of the other half, or dip it into melted chocolate, before placing the two sides of the sphere together.

Some TikTok users also decorated the outside of their cocoa bombs, with melted chocolate, sprinkles, or marshmallows. The simple recipe can also be easily customized for the season, with TikTok users using orange sprinkles for fall, for example. These could be switched out for red and green for Christmas, or pastels for Easter.

To use the hot cocoa bomb, place it gently in your mug, heat up the milk until it is warm and then carefully pour it on top of the chocolate bomb. Swirl the chocolate into the milk and enjoy.
