Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has the tendency to make comments about teammates that see him accused of preening narcissism.

But off the field, the Portuguese has an altruistic side, and displayed it again on Sunday when he posted a picture of a 5-year-old Syrian refugee called Ayman on Facebook to highlight the ongoing civil war in Syria.

Sitting with his son, Cristiano Junior, Ronaldo wrote: " #‎SaveSyriasChildren‬ like 5 years [sic] old Ayman who loves playing football as much as Cristiano Junior."

Ronaldo is an ambassador for Save the Children, the charity that estimates over 5 million Syrian children have been displaced due to the ongoing war between the army of President Bashar al-Assad's government and Syrian opposition forces.

Talks aimed at ending the war, which has been running since the spring of 2011, were due to start on Monday in Geneva between the Syrian government and the opposition.
