Why It Matters

Public anger at Tesla CEO Elon Musk has surfaced across the U.S, from town halls to Tesla dealerships. This display in New Orleans is yet another example of people taking out their anger at Musk on his products. Many are furious about Musk heading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), and recommending mass firings at federal agencies. Tesla shares and sales appear to be negatively affected following Musk's government involvement. In France and Scandinavia, for example, sales have dropped by nearly 50 percent since Musk joined the Trump Administration.

What To Know

Blogger "winespring," owner of an orange Cybertruck, livestreamed the Mardi Gras event on X, formerly Twitter, with fellow blogger MrMoonBound, and the vehicle can be seen in the stream getting booed by the crowd, people throwing beads at them.

Throwing beads at floats is a normal thing to do at Mardi Gras, but in winsespring's video the booing crowd appeared to be throwing their beads at the windshield and sunroof with added ferocity.

At one point, winespring, who has "Cybertruck" in her X bio, jokes "I think they think Donald Trump is in our truck right now."

Approximately 40 minutes into the parade, the pair pull over their orange car with a cracked window and leave the route.

Winespring said on the live stream that the parade organizers were "talking about pulling all of the trucks off, for everyone's safety," and another Cybertruck owner Josh "Pappy" Hazel posted a photo to X of his broken side window.

A man who's X account is called "I Love Tesla" also said people were shouting that Elon Musk is "a Nazi" at him and his truck.

This came hours after "Tesla Takedown" protests popped up across the country, and a Cybertruck charging station in Massachusetts caught fire in a suspected arson attack.

Besides damage to some Cybertrucks, no major violence occurred at Mardi Gras, the second major event New Orleans has hosted since its New Year's Eve terror attack.

What People Are Saying

Winespring on X: "Cybertruck definitely evokes emotions."

"I Love Tesla" on X: "Yesterday we had a chance to represent the Marshall cars for Lundi Gras Orpheus parade, and this should have been a really cool fun time...It was obvious, however, from the onset of the parade rolling this was more about chaos and hatred under the false flag we hate Elon...He's a nazi. It was really just an excuse to destroy someone's property to spread their evil anarchy on everyone."

Josh "Pappy" Hazel on X: "If you think assaulting my wife and vandalizing our Cybertruck is going to persuade us to join your anti-Elon or anti-Tesla views you're sadly mistaken."

What Happens Next

Given Trump affirmed in Tuesday night's Congress speech that Musk is running DOGE, attacks on Tesla, and a slump in sales will likely continue.
