Dad's Sick Note to Get Son Out of Gym Class Leaves Internet in Stitches

A father's apparent sick note to get his son out of physical education (PE) class left the internet in stitches.

It's no secret that PE isn't a subject everyone at school enjoys — and some students even go so far as to fake sick notes to get out of it.

In a viral post shared on Reddit's r/funny page, which can be seen here, user BlueWolf7995 shared a photo of his dad's supposed sick note.

While PE might be loathed among some students, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said there are many benefits to it.

These include developing motor skills, knowledge and behaviors for physical activity and physical fitness.

It also added PE lessons can improve students' grades and help them to stay on task in the classroom.

The Redditor's post, which included a photo of the note, was captioned: "This note my dad wrote me to get me out of PE."

It read: "Mr. [redacted]. Please excuse [redacted] from physical activities involving, stand, running and walking do to foot pain.

"However, if his foot falls off, he won't be in pain anymore and is free to partake in normal activity."

Since being shared last week, the post has attracted some 43,600 upvotes and more than 1,000 comments.

While the note no doubt left many people in stitches, several others also questioned its authenticity.

One Reddit user, whose comment was upvoted 9,600 times, said: "I thought this was a fake note that kids try giving teachers."

Another added: "Yeah, I'm pretty sure OP [original poster] wrote this note, but that's just my 'this is a kid on the internet' sense tingling."

A third posted: "I would never assume adults are good spellers. One of my daughter's teachers handed out a document in which he talked about 'grafting' some numbers."

A fourth commented: "The handwriting gives it away for sure. As an adult. I can confirm my sloppy handwriting consists of forming the letters in the laziest way possible that still makes it somewhat legible as opposed to sloppy handwriting that looks like I'm trying. Subtle difference."

Newsweek is unable to verify the details of this case.

There have been several cases where the Reddit community has been left in stitches after reading a particular post.

Last month, a man went viral after he bumped into his doppelganger while he was on vacation.

The two men found one another while they were at a pool in Las Vegas. A photo of the pair standing next to each other viral with just under 100,000 upvotes on the image within the space of a week.
