Mario Mascot Dances to Michael Jackson in Viral Video Viewed 6 Million Times

A video of a Mario mascot and Sonic the Hedgehog mascot dancing has gone viral, having been viewed more than six million times on Twitter.

The mascots are dancing to Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" with a group of children and are recreating Jackson's iconic moves: Sonic the Hedgehog moonwalks while Nintendo's Mario grabs his crotch.

Twitter user @jaay_cool shared the video and said: "I got tears man. Look at Mario."

At the time of writing, the clip has been viewed six million times, shared more than 120,000 times, and has amassed more than 600,000 likes.

Viewers are amused by how carefree Mario appears to be while he's supposed to be entertaining a group of children, like one Twitter user who said "man is in his own world not worried about one child," and another who said: "Mario don't give a damn bout them kids lmfaoooo."

The video has inspired Twitter users to share their own videos of people in mascot costumes dancing, with clips featuring Big Bird, Elsa, and Kung Fu Panda circulating on social media.

Twitter user @AeronYsrael shared a video of characters including Dora the Explorer, Kung Fu Panda, Minnie Mouse, and a couple of minions dancing at a parade. The video has been viewed more than 90,000 times and has amassed more than 11,000 likes.

@Mrxean shared a video of Sesame Street characters Big Bird, Elmo, and Cookie Monster, dancing at what appears to be a children's party. This video has been viewed more than 100,000 times and has amassed more than 11,000 likes.

Twitter user @GeanJrey shared a video of Elsa from Frozen appearing to turn up to a kids' party while dancing to "Let It Go" and said: "That's cute and all but nothing beats this." Elsa's video has been viewed 50,000 times and has amassed more than 5,000 likes.

@Maxigarciac1 said: "You guys ain't got nothing on this" and shared a video of characters including Spiderman and Iron Man dancing at a public event.

Twitter users have been replying to the hilarious dancing mascot videos with suggestions of songs to play in the background other than the original music, using @editvideob0t for even funnier results.

The edit bot says it allows users to edit videos on Twitter and Discord using the right commands.

For example, users have edited the original Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog video to have the mascots dance to Pop Smoke's "Get Back," Metallica's "No Remorse", and O-Zone's "Dragostea Din Tei," or as it is better known, the Numa Numa song.
