What Tyra Banks Has Said on Alfonso Ribeiro Joining 'Dancing With the Stars'

Alfonso Ribeiro has been announced as the new co-host of Dancing With the Stars.

The actor, 50, will join Tyra Banks in presenting the ABC hit, which will stream episodes live on Disney+ for the first time when it returns later in the year.

The long-running show sees a star-studded cast of celebrities paired with professional dancers and tasked with performing routines to win judges' points and audience votes. Last year, basketball star Iman Shumpert was crowned the winner of Dancing With the Stars alongside partner Daniella Karagach.

Although the line-up of contestants for the 2022 instalment hasn't been revealed yet, fans now know who will co-host season 31.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air actor Ribeiro won the show back in 2014 with Witney Carson and has served as a guest judge on the U.K. version Strictly Come Dancing. Now he is set to take on a very different role in the U.S. series.

He does have presenting experience, however, as he currently hosts ABC's America's Funniest Home Videos and its Nat Geo Wild spinoff, America's Funniest Home Videos: Animal Edition.

So what has America's Next Top Model star Banks, 48, who has hosted the last two seasons of Dancing With the Stars, said about her new colleague? Here's what we know.

In a statement released after the news about Ribeiro broke, Banks shared her excitement at working with her old friend.

"I've known Alfonso since I was 19 years old and he always puts a smile on my face whenever I see him," she said. "Having such a fun-loving, longtime friend as co-host warms my heart. Plus, he's won the competition before, so he knows exactly what the stars are going through. Bantering back and forth with him live is going to be so much fun!"

Ribeiro also spoke about joining the show, sharing that he is equally excited to be working with Banks.

"Dancing With the Stars has been such an important part of my life for so many years, and I am ecstatic to officially rejoin this tight-knit family as co-host," he said.

Ribeiro continued: "Tyra and I have a longstanding friendship that I hope will resonate with all of the fans at home as we kick off this new season on Disney+."

Meanwhile, Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough will all return as judges when Dancing With the Stars returns later this year. No premiere date has been announced yet.
